How to Get to Paxos: Flights, Ferries & Water Taxis from Corfu

  • Oct 20, 2026

Part of the charm of Paxos is that it takes a little effort to reach. There is no airport on the island, so every visitor arrives by sea — and that short crossing is the moment many guests say their holiday truly begins. Here is a practical overview of the main ways to get to Paxos and what to expect once you arrive.

Step 1: Fly to Corfu

The most common route is to fly into Corfu International Airport (CFU). Corfu has direct flights from many European cities during the summer season, as well as year-round connections via Athens. From the airport, a taxi to Corfu's port takes only a few minutes.

Step 2: Take the ferry or hydrofoil from Corfu

Passenger hydrofoils and car ferries connect Corfu Town with Gaios, the main port of Paxos. The fast passenger boats are the quickest option, while the car ferries take longer but allow you to bring a vehicle. Schedules vary by season and are subject to weather, so it is always worth checking the latest timetable and booking ahead in July and August.

Tip: plan a little buffer time between your flight and the boat. If your flight lands late, spending a night in Corfu Town and crossing the next morning is often the most relaxed option.

Alternative: private water taxi

For maximum flexibility, private water taxis and speedboat transfers can take you from Corfu directly to Gaios at a time that suits your flight. It is the most comfortable choice for families and groups travelling with luggage, and the views along the coast make it a memorable start to the trip.

Alternative: via the mainland

If you are travelling by car through mainland Greece, ferries also run between the port of Igoumenitsa and Paxos. This route is popular with travellers driving from Athens, Thessaloniki or Italy via the Adriatic ferries.

Getting around the island

Paxos is small, and its roads are narrow and winding. Most visitors get around by:

  • Car or scooter rental — available in Gaios, and the easiest way to reach Loggos, Lakka and the west-coast cliffs.
  • E-bikes — ideal for the hilly terrain and a lovely way to explore the olive groves.
  • Taxis — there are only a few on the island, so book in advance.
  • Boat rental — small motorboats, many requiring no licence, are the best way to discover hidden coves, sea caves and Antipaxos.

Arriving at Amfialos

Amfialos is located just above Gaios, a short walk from the port where the boats from Corfu arrive. Our team will share detailed arrival directions before your stay and can help arrange transfers. The villa also provides six e-bikes and paddleboards, so you can explore the island from the moment you arrive. Check availability or contact us with any travel questions.
